Welcome to Black Chambers Expert Advocacy and Scottish Criminal Court Lawyers. We offer more combined experience in criminal law than any other stable at the Scottish Bar.

Our members, both senior and junior counsel, have been involved in the most significant cases to be heard in the High Court of Justiciary in the last 10 years, and can provide expert legal advice and representation in proceedings at all levels.

Our counsel appear in the criminal courts throughout Scotland on a daily basis, thereby utilising and enhancing their expertise; expertise which could prove invaluable to you.

Apart from our core work, namely appearing in the High Court, the Court of Criminal Appeal, and the Supreme Court, our members also have considerable experience appearing at Fatal Accident Inquiries, Children’s Hearing Referrals and in the growing area of regulatory crime.

Although the actual court appearance is important it is worth remembering that good advocacy involves more than that. Consultation and negotiation with the Crown are vital to achieving the best results. In that connection a significant percentage of our stable have also been engaged in various capacities by the Crown; as Procurator Fiscals Depute before calling to the bar, or as full time or ad-hoc Advocate Deputes since calling. As a result our members have a detailed understanding of the workings of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service. This expertise has proved to be invaluable in all areas of practice, whether it be in relation to High Court indictments or Health and Safety prosecutions in the Sheriff Court.

Throughout our varied areas of practice, our members provide a wide range of services, and it is our intention to continue to meet the expectations of our clients by providing advice and representation promptly, and to an excellent standard. We would invite you to help us achieve that objective by communicating your requirements to our clerks, and by offering any feedback which you consider would benefit you or your clients.
